“Look! It's moving. It's alive. It's alive... It's alive, it's moving, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE!”

Frankenstein, as portrayed by silver screen legend Boris Karloff, comes to life in Funko Pop! Vinyl form. Exclusive to Hot Topic, this item is complete with Glows in the Dark sticker (as pictured).

Based on Mary Shelley’s timeless classic and directed by James Whale, Frankenstein tells the story of Dr. Frankenstein, who tampers with life and death when he pieces together salvaged body parts to create a human monster.

The film, which was quickly pushed through following the success of 1931’s Dracula, was due to star Bela Lugosi in the title role. When Lugosi declined, the role fell to Boris Karloff – a relatively unknown actor at the time. Together with makeup artist Jack Pierce, the pair created one of the most memorable monsters in cinematic history and cemented Karloff’s stardom. James Whale, who was tasked by Universal to helm the film, would later reteam with Karloff in 1935 for The Bride of Frankenstein, which introduced Elsa Lanchester in the dual role of Mary Shelley and The Bride. The film is one of the few sequels considered to be even better than the original on which it is based.

Interestingly, the preparation for the sequel began immediately after the premiere of the first film, which was met with critical acclaim and box office success. However, it was delayed due to script problems, allowing James Whale time to direct The Invisible Man, starring Claude Rains in his first American screen appearance. It became Univeral’s most successful film since Frankenstein – hardly a surprise as to why they let him return to direct the sequel, is it?

How does CultchaFreak grade items?

Understanding the grades

We're as accurate-as-possible with our condition information, but grading is highly subjective. As such, what one person considers to be 'near mint' is undoubtedly not the same for everybody.

The condition of new and incoming stock is marked down based on box damage and other noteworthy blemishes. Despite this, CultchaFreak might still rate the item as 'excellent' should the damage be deemed to be insignificant. Similarly, a product marked as 'acceptable' may have some form of box damage or blemishes to the box.

For vaulted and hard-to-find stock, CultchaFreak takes into account a multitude of factors when grading an item, including the rarity and condition of comparable goods available. As such, a vaulted item might have some blemishes or box damage despite being marked as 'excellent' or 'acceptable'.

Collectors who seek 'near-mint' or 'mint' boxes are encouraged to contact our support team via live chat, phone or email for further information pertaining to the condition of a specific product.

Paint Defects and Quality Control

Please note that CultchaFreak has no control or power over paint defects on products manufactured by Funko. We do not downgrade items based on such defects. Items with paint defects are ineligible for returns.

However, it is worth bearing in mind that most new releases from Funko have seen significant improvements in the Quality Control procedure. Vaulted and hard to find stock from the manufacturer may have noticeable paint defects.
